Homomonument (English version)
There’s a monument in Holland
For already twenty years
To honour history and liberty
Of lesbians and queers
Some of them died for our freedom
Some are still struggling to survive
Three pink triangles made of granite
To keep their memory alive
Bye-bye triangle to remember
For twenty years you’ve been a friend
Let’s not forget always remember
At our Homomonument
There’s a place for gays in Holland
In the heart of Amsterdam
I like to sit there in the sunshine
Singing ‘I am just what I am’
I see a bunch of lilac lilies
A boyfriend died, it is so sad
Two girls in love lay down red roses
They are just married, newly wed
Bye-bye triangle of the present
For twenty years you’ve been a friend
The place for dancing and romancing
Is our Homomonument
I’m climbing up the third triangle
It’s like a stage where I feel free
No need for acting or pretending
The real me is what you’ll see
Let’s keep on fighting and protecting
Let us be brave and never bend
For narrow-minded popes and people
At our Homomonument
Bye-bye triangle of the future
For twenty years you’ve been a friend
Let’s keep on dancing and romancing
At our Homomonument
Voor de opening van de fototentoonstelling OutSide op 27 juni 2009 heb ik het lied Homomonument vertaald in het Engels.
